The 2005 American String Workshop, has been designed by
leaders in the string teaching profession for the benefit, learning and
enrichment of their string teaching colleagues.
We are housing our program at the Kreft Fine Arts Center at Concordia
University in Ann Arbor, Michigan in a lovely and private campus. The
American String Workshop is sponsored by
Marshall Music,
Eastman Strings,
D'Adarrio Strings,
and supported by the Michigan Chapter of ASTA with NSOA in cooperation with
National ASTA with NSOA. This week-long, intensive workshop promises to
deliver tools, ideas, information, and materials to enhance your skills, and
bring new life and excitement to your string and orchestral programs.

Back by popular demand are classes
taught by nationally recognized experts including three levels of
instruction for violin, viola, cello and bass for those with "NPE", or no
previous experience and little background with a string instrument, to the
intermediate level person with some background but wishing to improve their
skill with another instrument, to those of advanced skill levels.
Participants on each level will also rehearse and perform with an orchestra
led by a nationally recognized specialist playing literature relevant to
their level.
Three intensive areas of instruction are offered for elementary, middle
school and high school orchestra classes including topics such as maximizing
effectiveness of rehearsal time, podium teaching, literature selection,
assessment processes, working with large classes, chamber music skills and
much more.
In addition, enrichment classes will be offered in areas designed to help
you to enhance your program including fiddling, jazz for the orchestra
director, winds for the orchestra director, research in music education,
technology for the orchestra director, administration of a music program,
impact of delivery, conducting, and others. Each of these sessions will
present leading edge information and issues affecting our profession.
Read about our innovative
scholarship program supported by dealers, instrument manufacturers and a
professional association in the Application Instructions below. This
initiative insures that the best information can reach us all at a
reasonable cost. I do hope you will plan to join us June 19 through
June 25 to learn from the industry experts and other attendees, gain insight
on developing a vibrant string program, enjoy the performances of faculty
and special guests, network and make new friends, get hands-on experience
with the latest equipment and earn academic credit! Please click here to
